Прибыль от продаж нового шутера из серии Call of Duty - Black Ops - составила 650 миллионов долларов. Как сообщает GameSpot, такую сумму игра заработала за пять дней. Число проданных за этот период копий игры не уточняется. Как стало известно ранее, за первый день Call of Duty: Black Ops разошлась в количестве 5,6 миллиона копий и заработала 360 миллионов долларов. Журналисты отмечают, что по прибыли за пять дней Black Ops превзошла все когда-либо выпускавшиеся игры, фильмы и книги, включая предыдущую часть серии - Modern Warfare 2. Ее выручка за пять дней составляет 550 миллионов долларов.
Кроме того, Black Ops установила несколько рекордов в сетевой службе Xbox Live. 9 ноября 2010 года, в день начала продаж игры, в многопользовательских боях Black Ops участвовало более 2,6 миллионов человек. Суммарно они провели в мультиплеере игры более 5,9 миллионов часов. Данные по количеству игроков на PlayStation 3 не приводятся, однако глава Sony Computer Entertainment America Джек Треттон (Jack Tretton) заявил, что благодаря Black Ops в сетевой службе PlayStation Network наблюдается "невиданный" всплеск активности.
Шутер от первого лица Call of Duty: Black Ops был выпущен на платформах PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii и DS. Это седьмая по счету Call of Duty и третья игра в серии, над которой работала студия Treyarch. Она также создала третью и пятую части. Сюжет Black Ops является вольным пересказом различных эпизодов "холодной войны" между СССР и США. От лица американских солдат игроки участвуют в военных операциях на Кубе, в Лаосе, во Вьетнаме и на Урале.
Известно, что в данный момент в разработке находятся по крайней мере две части Call of Duty. Студия Infinity Ward, которая создала шестую часть - Modern Warfare 2 - работает над продолжением этой игры. Студия Sledgehammer Games готовит Call of Duty, действие которой происходит в космосе. В начале ноября 2010 года представители издательства Activision объявили, что следующая часть серии выйдет в конце 2011 года.
